Position:            CONTAMINANTS RESEARCHER

(Contract position from April 1 2010 to March 31 2011 – Based on Program funding)

 

Reporting/Supervisory Relationships

Reports to:      Director of Human Services

 

General Accountability           

The purpose of the Contaminants Researcher is to facilitate the Using of Community, Traditional and Scientific Knowledge to Determine Risk of Contaminants to Flora contained within the Batchewana First Nation territories.  The Contaminants Researcher will gather information on contaminants found in plant life in and around the Root River. The Contaminants Researcher will incorporate scientific and traditional knowledge to create a database that will provide information on the findings of the research of the plant-life contaminant testing as completed. The Contaminants Researcher will work with the Batchewana First Nation Chief and Council, Batchewana First Nation Health Department and the Batchewana First Nation Natural Resource Department

Requirements of Position

Basic/Mandatory Requirements

 

The successful applicant:

            will have a university degree or a community college diploma in a relevant  Natural Resource Areas, Environmental Sciences, Biology or related scientific field and at least 2 years direct service experience in Natural Resource or environmental science, OR equivalent combinations of education and experience

            will be a member of Batchewana First Nation in preference to other applicants;

            will have a valid class “G” driver’s license and a vehicle;

  • must provide a CPIC (Criminal Records Check)

Crisis Worker

           BATCHEWANA FIRST NATION

Crisis Worker – 1 Full time & Relief Worker Positions

General Accountability           

The Crisis Worker is responsible for the provision of crisis intervention and support services, programming, short-term counselling and dispensing of medication to all clients at the shelter.  The primary responsibility of this position is to provide short-term counselling services consistent with the philosophy, goals and objectives established by Nimkii-Naabkawagan Family Crisis Shelter which is a 24 hour 365 day operation and 24 Crisis Line. 

 

The successful applicant:

            will have a university degree or a community college diploma in a relevant health and/or social services field, and at least 2 years direct service experience, preferably with families and groups OR equivalent combinations of education and experience;

            Aboriginal preference in hiring;

            will have a valid class “G” driver’s license;

            Clear current CPIC mandatory before starting position;

            Must be physically fit;

            will be thoroughly familiar with the relevant federal and provincial legislation, regulations and/or guidelines that are relevant to the funding and delivery of the Crisis Shelter services;

            will be knowledgeable about the culture and the significant characteristics of the social structure and relevant human services needs of Batchewana First Nation;

            will be knowledgeable of the range of both contemporary and traditional methods of intervention, support and healing that are effective in promoting community, family and individual well-being;   

            relate effectively to program management and colleagues as a flexible team player;

            Effectively plan, implement, monitor and evaluate programming, group work and interventions with families and individuals;

            communicate effectively in writing and verbally;

            Work flexible hours Sunday to Saturday days, evenings and night shifts.

The Health Program Planner will be responsible for the development and delivery of Health Promotion initiatives in conjunction with the Health and Social Services program planning team within the Batchewana First Nation communities.

            will have a Community College Diploma in the health field OR 3 years successful related experience;

Niigaaniin Program Support Worker

Niigaaniin Program Support Worker

(Contract Position to March 31, 2011)

 

Objective:

To provide assistance to the Niigaaniin program in the delivery and development of employment and volunteer services, workshops and client support.  Also to provide support to the food bank.

 

Specific Job Duties:

1.     Monitor and assist clients in the Niigaaniin Resource Room with the use of computer, telephone and faxing of resumes.

2.     Schedule and organize workshops – including contacting facilitators, booking of room, organizing refreshments, ensure set up of room i.e. TV, VCR, taking attendance.

3.     Daily maintenance of the Job Board in the Resource Room.

4.     Contact and remind clients about workshops, job postings, etc.

5.     Research and assist in the development of volunteer opportunities on the First Nation.

6.     Day to day operation of the food bank including purchasing food, taking appointments, bagging food and inventory.

7.     Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

1.     Must be eligible for BET funding – unemployed OR on social assistance OR on EI OR on EI within the last three years.

2.     Familiar with computer programs, particularly Microsoft Word and internet use.

3.     Able to maintain confidentiality at all times.

4.     Experience scheduling and organizing workshops preferred.

5.     Experience working with clients.

6.     Experience working or volunteering with a food bank an asset.

Tenant Counselor

Batchewana First Nation

Tenant Counselor – Full time Position

 General Accountability    

The Tenant Counselor is responsible in reporting to the Housing Director, establishing an applicant base, offering support services to tenants and families, establishing a network of contacts to whom tenants can be referred to, assist tenants in budgeting, home maintenance and care.

 

Basic Mandatory/Requirements

  The successful applicant:

·      Will have a Community College Diploma/Certificate Social Work, Office Administration or Business Field OR 3 years successful, related experience;

·      Will be able to provide a clear current CPIC

·      Will be a member of the Batchewana First Nation in preference to other applicants

·      Will be knowledgeable about the cultures and the significant characteristics of the social structures of Batchewana First Nation;

·      Will be familiar with office equipment including computers, photocopiers, fax machines, phone systems and postage machine etc.

·      Will have knowledge of Tenant Protection Act, Human Rights Code, Health and Safety etc.  And be familiar with CMHC housing

·      Must possess a valid drivers license and have access to a vehicle
